Safety & side-effects

Not suitable if

Women, and anyone under 18 years of age.
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant — they must not handle this product or a bottle that has leaked.
Anyone with a known allergy to finasteride or to any other component of the solution.
Anyone already taking oral finasteride — the two must not be used together (duplication of DHT suppression).

Safety information

Population restriction: This product must not be used by women or by anyone under 18. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must not handle it. Finasteride absorbed through the skin can cause abnormalities of the external genitalia of a male foetus. If a woman who is pregnant contacts the solution, the area should be washed immediately with soap and water and a physician contacted.
Commonly reported effects: Local scalp irritation, dryness, redness or flaking. Increased shedding in the first few weeks, usually temporary. Unwanted hair growth on adjacent skin. Effects associated with finasteride, including reduced sexual desire, difficulty with erection, reduced ejaculate volume, breast tenderness or enlargement and mood changes, have been reported with oral use and cannot be excluded with topical use.
Contact your physician promptly if you notice: Lumps, pain or discharge from the breast. Persistent low mood or thoughts of self-harm. Chest discomfort, rapid or irregular heartbeat, dizziness or swelling of the hands or feet. Any allergic reaction including swelling of the lips, tongue or throat.
Warnings: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on broken, inflamed or sunburnt scalp. Finasteride lowers serum PSA; tell any physician arranging a PSA test that you use this product.

It does not work quickly.
It does not work for everyone, and it is not indicated for every pattern of hair loss.
It does not replace medical assessment and periodic review.
It is not permanent. Effects are generally maintained only while use continues.
It is not a lower risk version of oral finasteride. Systemic absorption from a topical is lower, not absent.
